General Practitioner (Registered)

The General Practitioner’s primary responsibility entails delivering comprehensive healthcare services, encompassing the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions, management of chronic illnesses, and promotion of preventive care. The role involves conducting patient consultations, performing physical examinations, and prescribing medications, with a focus on monitoring effectiveness.

 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat a diverse range of medical conditions.
  • Manage chronic illnesses and promote preventive healthcare.
  • Conduct patient consultations, gathering and assessing medical histories.
  • Perform physical examinations to evaluate patients’ overall health.
  • Prescribe medications and monitor their impact on patient health.
  • Refer patients to specialists when necessary for further evaluation and treatment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all patients.
  • Provide health education and counseling to patients for effective self-management.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Stay informed about medical advancements and best practices through continuous professional development.

Education and Experience:

  • Postgraduate Diploma qualification or MBBS with a minimum 3 years of professional working experience 
  • Registered as a General Practitioner with the Fiji Medical Council.
  • Completion of a residency program in General Practice.
  • Valid national medical license and board certification.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based standards for safe practices in both specialized and general medicine.
  • Awareness of medical and government regulations, policies, and adherence to medico-legal requirements.
  • Understanding of concepts and tools related to clinical leadership, management, audits, research, monitoring and evaluation, and clinical governance.
  • Previous experience in a hospital setting with resource limitations.
  • Proficiency in resuscitating patients facing life-threatening emergencies, actively participating in emergency responses, and providing support to team members and relatives of critically ill patients.
